I am a recently frocked HM2 who will be up for orders in the next 3 months. Currently I am assigned to A CG in the FDNF. Since becoming a Junior HM on a smallboy, I can honestly say that I want to be an IDC. However, with all of the current requirements, it would take me quite a while longer to do so. My questions are as follows:
1) Are they still accepting waivers for time in rate and time in service?
If so, I will be a 2nd with 1 year time in rate and 5 1/2 year time in service when I PCS.
2) If I were accepted and successfully complete IDC School, would I still be eligible for Meritourious Advancement once I reach my time in rate?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I posted some simular questions on navyidc.org, I stillhavent got alot of feedback. Althoughmy situation is a slight bit different. Im a reserve HM2 with 15 months TIR. I have never been AD except when I got mobilized after 9/11 for 18 months. Im still trying to find out if i even have a shot at applying for IDC school. I knowI would have to go AD, which is fine if I can get the school. And right now its a hot fill according to the NPC site. So if anyone in here knows anything I sure would appreciate some feedback.

Shipmate,
The only way this will happen for you, you have to see a Active Duty Recruiter, for "General Assignement Recall" after accepted you must talk with the Detailer about IDC School, if there is a class seat etc.. Main thing though, you are signing up as General Assingment, meaining the Navy can do what they need with you for the first tour. (Does not mean you won't get IDC, you still may.)

Well, ChiefI just got the bad news letter today :X Here's what the training command Chief wrote me....
"Unfortunately, this is not a school that is open to Reservists. I have been in contact with the school house, and have been informed that they do not accept Reservists into this program because of the credentialing issues, and the fact that prospective candidates have to perform certain rotations before they qualify for this course. Also, I have also been told that all reserve IDC billets will scrubbed from the RUAD. " My suggestionto you is, if you truly want to be an IDC, submit a package to go FTS first.
So I am little bummed right now...... I knew it was a long shot, but I was more worried about my age then anything else...

Hey,
If you do it, don't go FTS, go REGNAV, You have more options.

Ok can you tell me the pros and cons of FTS vs REGNAV ? I thought they were both AD? I understand that the FTS/TARis for the support of the reserve element. And also im wondering if my age is gonna be a drawback as well, im hittin the big 36 in Sep

I posted this in another thread, so what is your take on this situiation Chief?
I have some questions. I went in the reservesas APG (advanced Pay Grade) for medicalin 1999 because of my years as an EMT-I. I think its called something different now nracs or something. Anyhoo, when I came in there was only a 2 week course (boot)in NSA NOLA. I didnt GET to go to Corps school even thoughI asked. I went to FMSS in 2000, have been with a Marine unit since then, been to the sand box etc. I am now concerned that whenI read your post about A schools. I dont have 1. My HMC is trying to get me into IDC School or worst case Surg tech school which are obviously C- Schools. Now I am wondering if I am even going to bequalified to go.. Anymore info that you know would be great.

Hey Chief, I started doing all my preliminary phone calls, and the AD recruiter told me I had to retake the ASVAB. Does that sound right to you?
