I went to the Navy IDC dot org site and saw a few posts that i would like to get some feedback on......Let me know what you think....

"As a reservist that did it in 2004, yes you can. I had to get approval from the ECM (HMCM Mankie at the time). I sent in two packages (1 for IDC school and 1 to be recalled for 1yr).
If I failed or DOR'd then I would be sent to IRR. This prevents people from going DRILLRES and then dropping so they can be active duty.
Upon completion I re-enlisted USN and I had my orders to 1st MAW.
Don't take no for an answer, if you really want to do it, pester people until they say yes.

If you are a reservist you are able to attend IDC school and when/if you graduate... The NEC is given to you. NOW HERE'S the catch.
You have to enlist into active duty service or be recalled. Upon graduating IDC school you will be sent to your active duty command. If you don't graduate, I am not sure if they will let you off of your active status.
may be wrong (and it doesn't happen often..haha), but I don't believe there are any DRILLRES (new term for SELRES) IDCs. The excuse I was given was that we couldn't maintain our skills.
If your a DRILLRES and you want to return active duty, it can be done. I did it and another IDC where I'm at did it. If you have any specific questions drop me an email and I'll see what I can find out or help if I can."
