I have a question...I saw a video on youtube about a corpsman repelling and he was wearing USMCCUU's....just wanted to know if as a corpsman attending FMSS am I going to have to repel...at any time....just curious...? any answers are much appreciated shipmates...OORAH!
I didn't do any rappelling in Field Med, but once you get to the fleet ya never know! I've never rappelled down any cliffs or anything, but as far as fast roping (from helos) yeah many times. My company is helo co. for the battalion so we all had to qualify. It's nerve wracking at first but gets easier after a few times! Also I have a couple friends who went to an assault climbers course in California and they did alot of rappelling and rock climbing there. Hope that helps man, good luck!

Probably not at FMTB (It's not been called FMSS for quite a few years now), but depending on your permanent command, the command's mission/location etc ... repelling could become a part of your training! Stay flexible and motivated.
One shouldn't look at things as 'having to', rather it should be approached with the mindset of, 'you get to'.
The FMTB websites have an abundance of information that is out there for your review and/or download.
If you're truly interested in the training, you'll spend some time at the following website.

Repelling is one of the fun things you do in the Navy.
Its been quite awhile for me,but there was no repelling until after School. We did climb and descend cargo nets at FMSS(now FTMB).As soon as I was assigned to 2/4 we repelled a few times at Northern Training Area,Okinawa.
After that it was out of CH46's.

I graduated FMTB in Feb. 08 and we did not repel. The video was probably of a field training exercise AFTER FMTB.

I went through FMTB (FMSS) in 1977 and it did not include rappelling, or any rope work. I reported to MCAS Iwakuni Japan and was rappelling out of CH-46's within a week. Also got to play with some explosive stuff when going out with EOD......fringe benefits.
