Has anyone seen the movie "Funny People," featuring Adam Sandler...
I watched it last night and it was, I think, one of Adam Sandlers more serious roles. Yes, it was a comedy but it seemed to be serious at times. It had a great story line!
I like Adam Sandler, he's a great actor and I really enjoy watching his movies.
I was wondering what everyone else thought about this movie.

I thought it was an okay flick but after seeing it I cannot really say it was a comedy. Many of the funny parts were funny but the comedy did not play a major role in the film. It is the most "serious" role I have seen Sandler play and the most "serious" movie I have seen him in. I think Sandler is basically a standard SNL actor and his quality is about equal to the fictional films mocked in this movie. Like most SNL characters, you either like 'em or ya don't. However, I do think Sandler puts on a better performance in this movie than most of his other flicks.
There are lots of subjects touched on in the film and I wonder how much of it is a thinly veiled portrayal of autobiographic material or personal experience in Sandlers world of comedy & celebrity. From struggling no-name comics trying to make it, betrayal to get ahead, the popular & easy and yet lonely & empty life of stardom, lost love, conflicting priorities of family vs career, midlife crisis, mistakes trying to relive what was lost, making amends....
It is not at all a typical Adam Sandler slapstick comedy and I thought it was one of his better roles/films.

You want to see serious Sandler, try his 2007 movie Reign Over Me.
