Does anyone know what it takes get the Navy to send you to the Interservice Physician Assistant Program? I know you need some pre reqs etc etc.. but I dont think I have seen many Navy PA's. I know the Army has a ton of them....Any insight on this program???

0311,

You need to look at the following instruction:
OPNAVINST 1420.1A CH-2 Chapter 6.

It describes the Medical Service Corps Requirements for Inservice Procurement Program. There is a section that covers the PA Program.

The Army uses PA's like the Navy uses IDC's. I remember that the Navy used to get 10 seats annually at PA school. Maybe that has changed. We used to recruit PA's from the civilian world and from civilian schools though. I have no current knowledge of the pre-reqs but the above advice from crazycajun should tell you what you need to know.

Thanks JR, I am aware of the navy link to the IPAP. The Navy's requirements are a lil stiff for me, to pursue. The Army and NG and USAF requirements are a lil more relaxed, and easier for me to obtain, if i so choose to jump to another service. Im at a crossroad so to speak. I really want to pursue PA studies, but im not sure if I want to leave the the Navy, and more so my Coprsman roots.

Im so suprised are how the services defer from each other when it come to these things. HM, Whiskeys, and 4X' (Air Forces Medics) Should all have the same options and requirments when it comes to persuing career options such a PA or BSN options.

Schmitty is right, I don't understand it either.. I know many a Corpsman who has gone to the Army or AF for the PA program.

The Navy is Bass Ackwards on a lot of their program crap..

To be honest i'm working on coming Navy. I have done my foot pounding for the Army. I now want to do it for the Navy and if possable with the Marines. I already have my NREMT-P so thats not a problem. I think with a couple more college class i will meet the Navys PA requirments but i want to do IDC first. I have talked with my Co Commander about releasing me, and as soon as we get a new whiskey all trainned and set up i beleave he will let me do. After 2 tours in Iraq with the Army I'm ready to start prusuing other adventures...then again I migh just go 18D...haha riiiggghhhtttt
