This is getting pretty close to happening, but i wanted to ask a couple simple questions first.

I'm former active duty, QM2, who got out in 1991. I've been working as an EMTb for the last five years and am in the final stages of entering the Navy Reserves as an HM (hopefully HM2, but that still remains to be seen).

At this point, it looks like i'll be attached to a Seabee unit (NMCB 18). Other than that, i'm sort of lacking in detailed information. I've been told that upon enlistment, i'll just start drilling with the local group and get OJT for the skills (mostly needle work) that i'm lacking.

Can anyone give me any more info as to what to expect?

Thank you very much,
mark

Hmmm I think the surprise your going to get is your going to have to go to NHCS for Corps School. Last I heard the PRIOR Service stuff was gone, VADM Cotton wanted all "HM's" to go to School.

Don't hold me on that though as I have been outta the loop for the last 2 months or so. You will have to go to FMSS though in either Camp Pendleton or Camp LeJeune.

The School for FMSS is 7 weeks long. "A" School is approximately 14 weeks long unless your on hold etc.. but once in the school itself in the curriculum it at your own pace, you know your crap, it will be quicker.

Hope this helps..

Thanks Chief for the info.

No one has mentioned A-school yet. The whole time there's been an insistance on documenting my four previous years of EMT experience and training. According to these guys, i'll just start drilling with my unit once i sign up, getting OJT for the skills i'm lacking. Hope this stays true, as i'm not really willing to go to A-school.

As for FMSS, i don't think that would bother me. Sounds fun, really. Again, though, it hasn't been mentioned.

We just had a Marine Transfer over to the Navy as a Corpsman. He did not have to go through "A" school. He has college alot of college behind him, but is doing a lot of OJT to learn all that we do. As a matter of fact he picked up HM3 off this last exam to be paid in July. He did awesome on the test. I expected him too since he plans on being a Doctor.

Just some info from what I have seen in the last several months. He came over around OCT. Not sure if things have change or not.
