True story, no really.:geek:

My son was 10 years old and figuring that the earlier he decided what he wanted to do in life the better he can plan and more successful he would be.

So, I asked my son, “What do you want to be when you grow up” to which he quickly replied “A comedian”. I almost cried. Not wanting to display the fear eating at me, I tried to help him discover other options.

I explained that it is important in life to not only do the job you love but to make a living at it.

I stretched both arms out and said “out of this many comedians that ever existed, probably only this many (the space between my index finger and thumb) were ever good enough to make a living out of it. Perhaps son you have some other career you could be passionate about?

He thought briefly and stated “I could always be a mime” (I nearly laughed my rear off, and told him “case closed” he would be a comedian destined for greatness), but I refrained choosing to stay on point and help my son discover a more traditional job opportunity. I said, “Son I only know of one mime that might have made enough money to live on, out of all the mimes in history”.

Perhaps you could come up with one more profession; he thought a bit harder this time, and professed almost as a question “I could always be a lawyer”. I was so excited at his choice and successfully navigating a minefield of career hazards, I shout “Son that’s great, you don’t even have to be good and you can be rich!”
