I posted this in the Intro thread, but thought I'd place it here too since this is where I belong.

---

Just joined the forums, so I thought that I'd introduce myself.

My name is Brad. I'm 24 years old, currently live in Chicago, IL, and I just recently enlisted into The U.S. Army as a 68W. I ship out at the end of February. Basic will be at Fort Jackson, and then its off to Fort Sam Houston for AIT.

I'm excited at the opportunity to help fellow Soldiers in the Army and to meet fellow service members here on the forums.

Hooah!

Well I want to welcome you to the world of the "Soldier Medic" I am currently at Ft Sam Houston about half way through my 68W school I have thouroughly enjoyed myself up to this point and can't wait to see what the road ahead brings. Basic training.... you're probably gonna hate it while you're there but afterwards but soon after and I mean soon(like I finished basic on 23OCT09) you will look back and realize that yes it sucked but it was fun as hell. As for AIT it kinda sucked at first because ARMY TRADOC (Army Training and Doctrine Command) has a thing called Phases of training, I'm sure you have heard of (if you have done your research) the red, white, and blue phases of basic training... well it carries over to AIT as well except they aren't colors they are numbers.eg. red=I white=II blue=III and when you get to AIT you are phase IV until week 3 of training when you take a PT test and pass it and your GPA is above 80, then you will be Phase V, my favorite part of AIT. In BCT your personal priviledges never change but the platoons priviledges get better. In AIT you get to have electronics and what not, but in Phase IV you cant leave the company area at all without expressed permission, but in Phase V when class is over you can leave and almost do as you please as long as you are at formation/bed check on time. In Phase V you can go off post, smoke, and drink, the three major things that most people want to do but can't as a Phase IV personnel. Hope I helped any more questions feel free to ask.

BSB,
Welcome to best damn job in the military. I served as an Army medic for 10 years and never left the Infantry which was great with me, and have recently transitioned over to the Air Force Reserve. Get through BCT and AIT and you'll find that being a medic is very rewarding, as well as being the most versatile job out there. Every unit needs them so many opportunities exist. Train hard and earn the respect of your men and you'll have a great time.
