Nearly a year after swearing in back in January, I will finally ship out for Great Lakes on Dec 1st and I'm pumped!
Just curious if anyone has any tips of things I should be doing now and advice for boot camp as well
Thanks

study the DEP PQS book and do your physical fitness so you can meet standards...

Remember, just because you finished the DEP-PQS, ask yourself if you still remember the contents. If you're contracted for E-2 for having completed the DEP-PQS, just know you will be tested again on it at RTC. If you fail that test, you lose the E-2 even though it's on your enlistment contract.
... PQS ... now i just got to hope my recruiters don't forget to send my PQS docs in.
Follow-up with the Recruiters on that. Ask to see it in writing, if at all possible.
Congratulations and best of wishes. After RTC, be sure to let us know how it went.

Congratulations. Get your rank recognition down up to all navy officers. Helps to know other services for the testing later in basic. sounds like you are definetely fit enough but always aim to improve. Remember a simple thing " Black pants = petty officer Khaki = Chief or Officer". Helps to not get yelled at for the first few days. Learn how to make a bed hospital style(45 degree ends etc) and remember not to take any insults from RDC's to heart. Its just a job and them pushing you to be better than before. Do the absolute best you can at everything and dont break rules. Be a leader when needed but remember to listen to others and be a good shipmate. Just some words from a recent graduate.

Another thing to add to that..when you get to Boot, don't be afraid to Volunteer. When that RPOC and AROC Position is available go for it. If you're contracted as an E-2 you can actually graduate as an E-3 if you hold one of those key positions. Never be afraid to excel.

Rah on that I was an AROC and it made life more interesting. More responsibility means more perks. I would also be sure to raise your hand night of arrival to a Petty Officer who is walking around asking if anyone has ROTC experience or if you are special programs (seal etc.) The reason they are doing this is they are qualifying people for 900 Division, and they cant take anyone who is going for seal. The difference will be that you will spend more time in the Drill Hall Practicing for graduations and there are some other privileges. In the end you will have more things to do and less time for an RDC to "figure out" how best to keep you busy. Good Luck!

Another thing I forgot to say. Don't think about how long boot camp is and discourage others from doing so, Instead just think of every day as one less towards your goal. Make a calendar in your notebook you will receive and every night just knock a day off. Also, not saying to go insane and report people to your rdc's about everything but if someone is going on their own program and doing things that will harm the whole division report it. I'm not talking about being up after taps for a shoe shine session or such but doing pranks etc. Always utilize your chain of command(dont go up to RDC's saying that you need something. "All you need to live is air, water and eight counts") go to yeoman/RCPO first. Also don't ask RDC's questions about stuff in advance like battle stations, graduation,a school,c school etc. Focus on each day rather than farther down the road.

Keep in mind that the days will drag but the weeks will fly by.
