Thanks Crazy
When I first come into Corpsman.com website, I click the scuttlebutt link. Once there I like to click on the "new posts" link.
Can we get the 'gaming news' posts directed under a gaming sticky? It's tiresome to weed through all those gaming posts.

8404,
I think I found the fix for the New Posts for you. I've excluded all of the RSS postings from the NEW POSTS. Hopefully they will not show up any more if not please let me know.
Tracy
Chief Cajun;
Were still getting Gaming News, Computer news when you click the 'new posts' link as of this morning, July 19 11:35am

8404,
I guess i had the text for the link wrong, it looks like I have it fixed now. Please let me know if I'm wrong and need to take another go at it.
Thanks for letting me know it wasn't fixed.
Chief Cajun;
The RSS gaming feeds are still showing up in the 'new posts' link as of yesterday, July 20, 2007 and this morning, July 21, 2007.

8404:
When you mouse over the "New Posts" Link does the following URL show on your computer:
http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=45,46,47,49,51
I've tried this on 3 different computers at home and at work and I do not get any of the RSS's when I click the "New Posts" Link. Just trying to get to the bottom of this.
you may need to log out then log back in to change sessions.
Chief Cajun:
"When you mouse over the "New Posts" Link does the following URL show on your computer:
http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search...45,46,47,49,51."
No it does not show that. what does show on my computer is: http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew
I also logged off from the site and cleared my history and cache. I then re-logged on after a few hours to wait for some new posts to post. I still see Gaming News RSS Feeds.

8404,
if you don't see the following:
http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=45,46,47,49,51
then you computer isn't reading the updated page and this is causing you to see the RSS.
Are you using IE or Firefox?
Firefox/2.0.0.4
Is that a problem?
crazycajun
07-25-2007, 19:26
Nope that shouldn't be the problem.
Try clicking on the link in my previous post and let me know if the RSS stuff shows up for you then.
Chief Cajun;
I noticed there are two "new posts" links. The very top one in the top box, when I hover my pointer over this one it shows the link http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search...45,46,47,49,51. That one works. I never saw this button before. I always used the one 3d box down, center of the page, which contains this info:
Welcome back 8404
You last visited: 07-28-07 at 6:03 pm
New posts: 2
Log Out
When I hover over that 'new posts' button it shows: http://www.corpsman.com/forum/search.php?do=getnew
Thought you should know.
Take care and hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Chief Cajun:
Another suggestion: On the front page where Da-Chief post his daily diatribe, can we get it to word wrap? It's frustrating to have to scroll right and then left just to read what is posted.
Ahhhh, one last suggestion for the night!
We appear to have a shout box counter which shows what place people are categorized in by the amount of shouts they have done. It gets peoples attention and there is some competition going on.
Why don't we do away with this one, and stick something up that can really benefit corpsman.com with something tangible?
I suggest we have a counter for how many 'CLICKS' people have done. We all know what that means and nothing else needs to be mentioned. A simple counter, categorizing people by how many 'CLICKS'. What a great way to keep track of who REALLY is number 1,2 or 3 etc..... and it benefits corpsman.com.
Now let's see some real competition. I don't believe this is a violation of any user agreement. But,......I could be wrong.
What say you?

8404,
I fixed the issue where "New Posts" in the Welcome Back Area. I didn't realize there was a link to fix there. Thanks for letting me know. If i missed any other please point it out to me.
OK, On the Front Page thing, I don't know how many times I've fixed that. Every time I do, someone to remain nameless, breaks it again. It's just as frustrating fixing it everytime it gets broken.
I talk this over with Darrell, though I don't think we can do the clicks thing you want.

Nope can't do that.. But I think we are going to come up with something good for contests.. Be it 50.00 Best buy cards or something..
ALso Crazy I need to give 8404 Supreme Moderator Grand Pubahh Status..
;-)
Which means he needs to be able to see teh same stuff we see.. I.e the calendar and the forum we use.
Same goes with Kaymanism.. Official Tiger Beat Photographer..

Setting:
When one goes to the Main BAS and chooses from the selections (lets say FMF) and clicks on it, why doesn’t EVERY thread created show up?
I suggest that every thread created by available*. Presently they disappear from the thread list if not viewed. Granted they still show up in the search engine or if you click on a persons name and see how many threads they’ve started.
Sometimes I’ll click on a topic and I’ll get a prompt (There have been no posts in the last 30 days in this forum.Try using the controls below to search for any older posts that may exist).
Why can’t all the old post be there to view? I suggest this to be changed.
*If there are threads that have been locked or are not good for the website, I understand their absence.

Can we publicly flog Pardue weekly?
The Dirty Name:
What you are experiencing is due to 'forum defaults'.
From the main page, click 'scuttlebutt forum'.
On that page, at the very tops is a blue box.
In the middle there is a link, titled: 'Quick Links'
Within that, at the bottom, is a link called 'edit options'
Within 'edit options', third box down is a box called: 'thread display options' the last option;' Default Thread Age Cut Off' has a drop down box from which to select, 'Show All Threads'.
Select that and then scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click the SAVE CHANGES button.
reload the corpsman.com page and the forum's will behave as you have suggested.
Hope this helps, if it doesn't send me a pm.

Have a great Navy day!
How about a health/ fitness area? I know there are areas for clinical experiences, but what about members' fitness? I don't know, maybe I am the only one that has this issue......
Sounds like AndiRRT may become our newly appointed "health/ fitness" moderator.

I havent been on here for awhile, but the first thing I noticed was the forum is way to messy and complex. Very hard to navigate. I spend ALOT of time on forums, infact I moderate on the largest 350Z forum on the web (www.my350z.com). Simple sells. It needs to be easy enough for everyone to use. IMO of course.
Also, not really a big thing, but it seems there are way to many moderators for a forum this size. There are more moderators/admins/editors logged on than regular viewers. Its great to have people involved, but some others might feel left out.

What? Huh? lol
"there are way to many moderators for a forum this size. There are more moderators/admins/editors logged on than regular viewers."
Da-Chief likes to have a moderator for special threads! We only have 1 admin and 1 editor. Most people have regular jobs/families, and one person cannot possibly moderate the entire board, publish a newsletter and perform admin responsibilities.
I disagree with you, "There are more moderators/admins/editors logged on than regular viewers." very rarely are we all on at any one time. If we are, it is usually because we are in a staff chat, discussing the sites business.
"the first thing I noticed was the forum is way to messy and complex. Very hard to navigate."
We are always open to suggestions, so with that in mind, coupled with your expertise, be specific with your suggestions and I'm sure Da-Chief and the admin will take it under advisement.
Best of luck on your package to SUB IDC school. What an exciting new direction you are taking with your career.

Yes I agree with 8404.
He's right in that he has not been in here for a while so doesn't have a finger on the pulse as to how hot and fast this board can get.
More to Corpsman.com then the forums.
BUT
That being said. We are trying to look at ways to consolidate, but also you have to remember, that about 35% of our users are new Recruits, it is easy for them to navigate.
But I am always looking for ways to streamline things.
With Suggestions Give Ideas..
Thanks!
HMC
The only possible way I can think of to "streamline" the site would be to divide the topics and threads into 3 categories: Active Duty, Veteran, and New Recruits. This way, users could go to an area of the forum that relates directly to their needs. But I like it this way: everybody interacts with everyone else. For example, Chief PJ has been a great help to me (and citrus, and 8404, and you Chief, and Deedee....blah blah blah lol). If you further subdivided the forum, and I posted a question in a new recruit section, then if someone doesn't check that area because they aren't a new recruit, I might miss out on valuable info I could use. The way it is now, we all interct with one another. So I guess nevermind :) I say Keep things the way they are!
Nevermind. I am just off from work, and I had a rough night (3 hour code and pulled a muscle in my back trying to help a flight team lift a 500 lb. patient into a chopper with the stretcher jacked up to the level of my eyebrows all while trying to keep the ETT where it needed to be and bagging simultaneously). The forum already is subdivided that way! D'Oh!!!!!
Haven't seen any suggestions in a while - we must be doin a helluva job here :D

I like the new format for the site. I appreciate the FMF PQS study guides, I think they will be really helpfull in getting people their warfare quals. In light of navy storekeeper wepsite shutting down, how about a post of the bibs and links to all the references.

The staff and membership of corpsman.com wish to salute and honor the hard work and selfless dedication to SKCS(SW/AW) Charles (Chuck) Zwierzynski, for his military service and undying love of mentoring his fellow shipmates.
An excerpt taken from Senior Chief Zwierzynski's website:
"If you are not aware, shipmates, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastic Melanoma Cancer in my liver and brain in October 2006. It is incurable but it is treatable - which shows why I am still on active duty and assigned to a couple of superbly supportive commands, the PCU GEORGE H W BUSH CVN-77 and FISC NORFOLK VA. We have expended most of the treatment options at this time, so I believe it would be unfair to say I would have the strength to update the site when the next Bibliography References are released on NAC in March and April.
It has been an enormous pleasure to create this web site. I truly hope it has helped as many sailors as possible for its intended purposes. All the personal time spent has been well worth it -- no regrets. And I truly hope you have taken this information, shared it with your shipmates, and used it to continue to develop into the best sailor possible.
It has been my honor, shipmates & have been proud to serve you -
SKCS(SW/AW) Charles (Chuck) Zwierzynski"
God Bless you and your family, Senior Chief and thank you for your military service.

""Shipmates, it is with a heavy heart that I report that Senior Chief Chuck Zwierzynski passed away this Monday morning, 31 March 2008. The Navy's going to miss him as will his shipmates. Fair winds shipmate, we have the watch.

Greetings Chief and everyone.
I was wondering if there was a file specifically for sea stories that I'm just not able to find.
If there is not one could there be one added to the list?
Once a Corpsman, always a Corpsman!
