View Full Version : Fleet question

I'm a student finishing my associate's degree and have a rather odd question pertaining to personal time while green side. Please note that this question may be extremely naive and for that I apologize. Nevertheless, I felt it couldn't hurt to ask.

For the past couple years I have actively traded the stock market. Since I both work full time and go to school, this generally means that I study what my gameplan is for the following day and place my trades with a phone call sometime between 10:15 and 11 a.m. the next morning. Is it completely out of the question that I will be able to continue this after enlisting?

I realize that my duties as a corpsman would come first. I just wasn't sure how a chain of command would look at this sort of request or whether I would be laughed at. Again, sorry for a really off topic question and thank you for your time.

If you were a corpsman I'm sure your day would be layed out for you already and yes that is a weird question

I disagree, no question is neither wrong nor weird. The only stupid question is the one NOT asked.

First, I want to congratulate you on investing and hopefully building a retirement nest egg. Please know what you are doing. I pay for someone to manage mine, because I don't want the headaches.

I would think, if you are a corpsman, your day would be filled with all sorts of work. You do have a lunch period, but not while in the field. Trading stocks, as any other personal business, should be done outside of working hours. If you are in Iraq or Afghanistan then it would be impossible or nearly so.

Also, congratulations on going to school. Study something that will give you certifications, not just a Bachelors in Management. They are a dime a dozen in the civilian world.

Totally agree with what 8404 answered.

Son..(Boy I am old enough to call people that now!) Your 1st Mission is the health and well-being of your sailors and Marines.. I would say you have 2% chance of making that phone call at the alloted time.

What we do alot though (I learned this from one of my old Officers..) is learn to plan your trades "ONLINE" in advance... You already know what your going to do usually the night before after the market closes, or early in the morning depending on what happend elsewhere in the world.

Hope this helps..

Da-Chief.
