Greetings and congrats on joining the best service in the military!

Head on over to http://www.sarcorpsman.com/new_applicants.html to read our requirements. After that, surf through the site to see what else is new and all. We have our own forum as well at the site.

In a nutshell, you have to have completed your 1st tour, so you will not be able to apply for it until a few years down the road. While at your 1st tour get these things done: Long form flight physical with waivers completed, get EMT-B certified, while at boot camp you can get your 2nd class swimmer (well you could back in the 90's when I went through, if you cant, do that at your 1st command), don’t get in trouble, keep the evaluations up.

Keep the physical training up, aircrew school is a physically demanding class, running and swimming 2-3 hours a day (each).

After you have taken a look through it all, if you have any further questions you can give me a shout.

We have 2 reserve component SAR units (san diego and virginia). As long as you can pass a flight physical (good eyes/ears, nothing broken in awhile), can run up to 6 miles at a time in school while doing calistetics on the beach, can swim a mile and tread water for up to 15 minutes, you should have no problem. Head to SARCORPSMAN.COM for all the latest and greatest info. I cant answer specific reserve questions but our model managers and detailer certainly could.

Thanks for the info!! Also...not to be a bother but I am looking to go into Flight Nursing as a civilian later on...I am guessing that having SAR Corpsman experience coupled with 8404 would def. help!....Right?

Thanks again!! I will keep in touch!!

With a name like Sarsfield was there ever any doubt to the NEC route you would take? That's just too amusing. Get ribbed all the time huh?

I went SAR around the same time the whole SARS epidemic blew up, so I was getting it from all sides of the house!

Yup, SAR will look great on your resume for flight nurse, we actually have a couple of those billets on the active duty side and they're very sought after in the nurse hore..Im sorry, corps reqs.

I did contact the model manager and he mailed me some info.!! I definitely appreciate the help! Being that I graduate in 1 year, actually less come to think of it!, I would probably want to start getting some of the "wheels moving" soon. Am I right? I guess I would have to come down to VA and speak with some people. Who would I really speak with first? I guess the model manager would have this info? I also heard that SAR is able to go to Jump school! The model manager also said that being that I will have a Bachelors degree, actually the Nursing degree will be my 2nd Bachelors degree, its a long story!! ahahaha, that I could get my commission and be a pilot for SAR! All sounds good to me! I would really like to get my first class swimmer beforeI even attempt SAR. I live very close to NAS Willow Grove, and I am wondering if they can give me the test? Anyhow, again thanks for the info. and I would like to keep in contact with you in regards to the SAR program!!

LOL I am soooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrry . You ever thinking of changing the name to LEE? No what am I thinking, you wouldn't want to be mistaken as a relative of mine, that would get you in trouble.

I see there has not been many updates on this topic in awhile. I can tell you that the Navy is in Major need of SAR (8401) Corpsman.
The pipe line has changed a little from what you see above. First you must complete 8406 AVT school in Pensacola 10 week school. You will then cross the street and got to Naval Air Crewman school. 4 weeks. Upon graduate you will then go to SERE school which is 14 days. After you get done getting beat you then head to Fort Rucker Alabama for Flight Medic school. This is 30 days of training.
This is where it depends on what platform you will be going to. The next school you will head to all depends on your ultimate command. You will do EMT and any other training once you arrive to your command.
You need to be able to pass a flight physical and be able to do A LOT of swimming. Other wise DO NOT APPLY!!! This is a very elite group of Corpsman that must be top of their game other wise you will not make it. You will work as an AVT when you are not flying so be ready to do sickcall and everything else. I would do an operational tour prior to appling so that you have an understanding of your rate and to make sure this is what you really want. If you would like more info please feel free to contact me.
