Greetings. I can’t really answer your question because I am a whelp and only in the inactive reserves.
The following ratings allow women:
HM-8401 Search and Rescue Medical Technician ( Not really FMF, but could involve Marines.)
HM-8404 Field Medical Service Technician (Limited. Only males are allowed in the ‘field’ platoon structure.)
HM-8425 Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman (Pay grade of E-5 needed.)
HM‑8707 Field Service Dental Technician

Due to the need for so many FMF Corpsman at this time, and that you are a paramedic, I would feel pretty good about your chances of going green.
How to go green:
Do well in A school and talk to a liaison for FMSS. They should make sure you go to FMSS.
From there, do well in FMSS and you should be good. Always keep in mind, Big Navy tends to send Sailors were they are needed the most regardless of your dreams and ambitions. However, like a typed, Big Navy needs Corpsman for The Navy/Marine team in operations in the Middle East. PS: I will bump the thread so others may see it and give you a better responce.

If you really want to go FMSS, tell them at MEPS and say that the only way you will join the Navy will be getting FMSS. If they tell you that you don't need it in your contract, or that you can volunteer for it later, tell them no thanks. Make SURE it is written in your contract, and you will go.

You MUST get it in writing - limited number of females allowed to attend FMSS and it is done only at Camp Lejeune at this time. Make sure it is GUARANTEED in your contract BEFORE you sign anything
Good luck

Thanks for the info! We'll see...

wow, there is a lot of craziness getting thrown around in this post. First, females have a very good chance of going through FMSS, in either Pendelton or Lejuene. Yes, you can def demand that it's in your contract to attend FMSS, but that does not neccesarily mean that's where you will be stationed afterwards. You still will probably go to a hospital and be on an FMF platform. And remember that as a female you will most likely be with MedBattalion or Air Wing, if you're lucky Casevac. I met a very nice Female Casevac Chief when I was at TQ for my FMF board. just keep in mind that it's very possible.

HM3, Females do not currently attend FMSS at Pendleton. I'm at FMSS in Pendleton now and I'm positive that females only go to FMSS. If you get FMSS in your contract, you are guaranteed to go. What do you mean by stationed there? Out of the 203 people in my class I would say about 75 are staying at Pendleton for either 1st MLG or 1st Mar Div. But stationed here at FMSS, no one that I know of is stationed at FMSS upon graduation.

Ok to un-screw the scuttlebutt that is being thrown around..
1. Camp Lejuene is the only place for Females for FMSS.
2. Females are "VOLUNTARY" now for FMSS due to space limitations.
3. You "CANNOT" get it in your contract, bets you can do is try to finagle a way to get it at "A" School.
4. Unless your NPSB and you have the 20K bonus then you "HAVE" to go to FMSS. It is a "RESERVE PROGRAM" not full time active duty.

You cannot be stationed at FMSS as a intsuctor until you have one "FMF" tour under your belt and you have the FMF warefare designation.
There is a "LOT" of crap being thrown around here. PM me with any questions you might have and then I will answer you and on here.
Thanks

I was wondering how long 1) somebody would ask the chief. 2) the chief himself would surface. I was leaning towards number 1 , but since he's retired it seems some think he out of the Loop. NOT. Thank you Chief for the REAL SCOOP. OYYYYYY

Nope not out of the loop, plus Crazy is serving with the Marines now. I am supposed to have lunch this week with one of the staff at Corps School so I can get the latest gouge.. Gotta scratch the hand that feeds me!

P.S. to the civilian Paramedic who started the inquiry. Don't know where or how long you have been a Paramedic. Being Grunt Doc is more than being a paramedic. Your Paramedic will help in some areas, but not all. A paramedic is a specialty in Emergency Medicine . A navy corpsman is alittle more diversified. Sorta like of jack of trades in the medical field till you pick a specialty if you choose. For all this to start you become a sailor by going to Boot Camp first , the basic "A" corpsman school then you go from there. Chief correct me if I'm wrong . Isn't there hoops to go through before "A" school. My advice . Ask Da Chief for a one on one and get the straight skippy.
Thanks again all, will do Popsie.
And thanks for the research Chief.

lol, when I said "stationed there" I meant stationed in Lejuene or Pendelton with the Marines, not literally at FMSS. I was trying to say even though you are a paramedic, and go through FMSS, you still stand a strong chance of going to a hospital. I didn't know though that females couldn't go through FMSS West. Thanks for the scoop Chief
