ok i leave in a few weeks for recruit training and i was wondering if i do go FMF i no i will serve with the marines, but does that neccesarily mean that i will be combat active, or will i be in hospital bases around the area or will i go on patrol as well

Here's the deal. It all depends on where you go and themobilization billet you'll be filling. Once you complete HM "A" School you should know where your next command will be, from there it'll be easier to tell you the possibilities of the question you have asked.

Hospital mob billets have several possibilities: Fleet Hospitals, FMF Units, Fleet Surgical Teams, to name the three I can remember.

FMF you can go to Marine Logsitics Group, Marine Division, Marine Aircraft Wing.

Shipboard and Navy Ship out there name one.
