Hey all, great forum here.

I was a Marine for 8 years. Served as an Infantry Marine deploying on 3 pumps, including one to Iraq during the siege of Fallujah in Nov 04. Also served 3 years as an Embassy Marine.

Got out in January of 05 and have been working with Blackwater in Baghdadever since. Had some good experiances with Docs and have always thought it would be something I'd be interested in. Spoke with the Navy and retook my Asvab and medical and am simply waiting to see a Navy Classifier. Hoping to work with Marines but am open to anything in the medical field.

Curious for any advice on schools, Navy life, reading material....anything to better prepare me for life as a Navy Corpsman.

Thanks a lot.

sundaysinner,

Welcome brother! Well, as far as the Marine Corps you know how that goes. Life as a Navy Corpsman with the Marine Corps it's not much different. Though, I've enjoyed the past 9 years of my life with the Marine Corps.

What type of school information are you looking for? Are you looking to Specialize in the HM feild? Because, Recon is currently hurting for HM's there and if you can pass the Recon Indoc, they can always utilize more Corpsmen. 8404 HMs now can recieve a small Selective Reenilistment Bonus (SRB). Plus there are many more schools to talk about. I'm sure if you private message Da'chief he could assist you with some study material for HM "A" School.

Ive worked with my fair share of the Spec Ops community and yes I fully intend to take the indoc when given the chance.

Ive maintained a high level of fitness and currently have a job where Im a Personal Trainer, so I lead a healthy lifestyle.

I am planning on going the Corpsman route with the Marines.

sundaysinner,

Rgr that! I kinda figured that you stayed in good physical shape. I've seen many of Corpsmen think they could hang with the indoc and other who think it's a joke, until they run it. Never doubted a Former Marine would let himself go to the way side.

I keep tring to get a buddy of mine who is an Recon HM1 with MARSOC get on here, though since it's a fairly new unit he's been working to get stuff together for them and hasn't been able to find the time to get on here.

Keep on Keepin on!

and one day we wake up at 44 and realize that "pushing through the pain" has created a situation where walking is now painful. careful guys, I'm now unable to do much exercise, unless it's a stationary bike and the home gym stuff.

I started putting it on a few years ago when this all started. I actually lost some lately, but it's a huge battle with out the benny of running and all the required jumping and stomping. Jumping jacks just make the leg collapse.

I used to run and climb over stuff, did it more than most because i knew I was physically slower, older and less able to keep up. I had to push just to keep up. I let a problem in my back and lower leg be ignored for years, all in the interest of maintaining an image. Now the folks at the VA wonder what's wrong with my foot and leg, some say its the back, but the MRI is normal. EMG's over the years are normal. My foot, ankle, lower leg all have pain or numbness and tingling. It's a constant, never stops, wakes me up at night and all that.

just listen to the aches and pains. If I had, I would have been better off. I had to be a hero type though and be tough. Now, I'm probably gonna be walking with a cane soon on a full time basis. I use it now for when I know I'll be on my feet awhile.

It's probably not going to get much from the VA either, since everything seems to be normal.

Been there done that got the freaking cane to prove it. From the scooter store I'm DOC Lee.

Ive read that if you would like to persue the Recon route to speak with someone when you get to A School. Not sure who that might be or if it is even true?

Do I just do like the Marine Corps and wait to get to my first Duty Station to sign up for the indoc?
