Didnt know if anybody had been following this or not. Marcus Luttrell is "The One", the only survivor of a firefight in Afghanistan that ended up killing 19 Special Operators, including 11 SEALS. He is the guy who evaded the Taliban for four days until a local came to his aid and eventually got him back to US hands. Luttrell is also a HM1, just retired last week or so. His new book is out, and Im going to get it tommorow and read it. Sounds like an amazing story for sure.

I will say this..
A SEAL who retired as a "HM1" ?????

There are a lot of questions about his book. He basically writes like he made all the decisions..

ERrr.. I am sure there was a Officer in charge? I know the families of the men who were killed are Pissed off about what he wrote.. The innacuracies.. from what he told them and what is written.

Sounds Like "BLOW HARD" to me, but I will read it..

I dont think he had a choice in the matter on retirement, he got shot up pretty bad from what I understand. There was a OIC, Lt Mike Murphy(whose name happens to be on a memorial bracelet I wear). Luttrell was the Senior enlisted on that recce. I hear he told the Murphy family one thing, but wrote something different. I have seen some pics of this guy on active duty in Afghanistan at http://www.mattaxelson.com/ , and the one thing I noticed in every picture Luttrell is in: He looks pissed. Always scowling, glaring at the camera.

When I was active duty, I worked with and around SEALS a time or two. Partied with a pretty good group of guys in Hughada Egypt for a week, had a blast. But one thing I did notice: There were the guys who were the amazing textbook SEALS we all read about. Got along with everybody, didnt matter if you were a paintchipper or an admiral. And then there were these other guys, dickheads basically. "Im a SEAL, and since you arent, you suck and you shouldnt draw the same air I do". I bumped into a couple of them, and didnt come away impressed. Luttrell reminds me of a guy I went to SERE with that was like that. At any rate, he is the one who has to look at himself in the mirror.

He does not seem fit the specwar ethos of "quiet professional".
