Cj,
I do not believe that you have anything to worry about! Plenty of persons in the military of your stature. I've seen people your height do well and more than some of a taller nature. Your the perfect size for a ship if that's something you want to do or whatever it is you want to do. Keep On Keepin On!

I'm 5'4" I always took flack for being short. I smiled, dug in and made sure I worked on the physical stuff twice as hard. Academically, I was very good , a bit above average.
Yes, being short sucks but we can't control it. I was determined at every command to be the best HM the squadron ever had. When I took on the fleet liaison job in Guam, I know I was the best at it.
People who misjudge me based on my hieght make on eof the biggest mistake sin their lives, and feel the wrath of an angry hornet's nest from me. I may look only 5'4" but my mind thinks I'm 6'2" chiseled and mean. Well it got the mean part right, I can sure get riled.

Here's the deal with surviving FMSS -- as long as you don't quit on yourself, they won't be on ya. It flows over like that to the FMF.
All any Marine wants is you to do what you're capable, and they'll tell you what that is! If you can hang with the majority of them, you'll earn so much respect. If you don't, you'll hear them call you by rank and rate the rest of your time there.
Be great, and show them you care, you'll even get called SGT corporal or what ever once in awhile. I was known as SGT DOC and my junior HM was just Mullen.
I tried to get him to change but he had oatmeal for a brain at times. Good luck, don't sweat the hieght. It's not the size, it's the heart.

Well I can tell you from another short person, is if you are with the grunts and always on the hump, dont pack what you dont need. cuz I learned the hard way that ounces = pounds. It took me a while to get that thru my head. But as long as you dont quit and you have the trust and respectof your Marines you will be fine. Cuz believe me once you are one of them they got your back in more ways than one.
