Hi guys.

Well, come Monday I will finally be off to boot camp.
I wonder if anybody else who frequents this site ships out that day (July 2nd).
I am getting pretty excited and also a tad nervous.
Man, three meals a day, they even cook for you. Lights out at ten... I wish civilian life would be that worry free ;-).

Bye

Hey good luck in basic!!! I'm VERY new to these forums and really just trying to take everything in. I don't even understand all of the acronyms:err:. Anyway, I'll be leaving for bootcamp on 18 July, then off to school. I'm hearing that HM school is self paced. Any comments on that?? The reason why I ask, is because all the recruiters that I talk to say,"NO, it's 14 weeks, period."

Corps school is 'self paced' and it is no longer 14 weeks long. Following is the link for boot camp:

Enjoy and please post more.

Yea, I saw that website. It was pretty good. I think I read it twice in a row. hehe. Sometimes it's good to go into things blind so you don't chicken out...but I'm pretty excited (I think). But thanks anyway...So HM school is "self-paced."

Corps School is "self paced" BUT it is also 14 weeks long - Basically it is self paced as long as you stay on pace :D Believe me they will let you know if you aren't on pace too :D
Congrats on your enlistment - Good Luck

The key thing is not to compete to see who finishes Corps school first. Learn it solid.

Exactly, I'd hate to rush out of school and not know a thing. I hear if you're in the top 10% of your class you can choose where you want to be stationed, given that it's available. I think that would be more of an incentive than getting out of school quickly.

I just graduated from corps school june 15th and the whole time I was there if you had a 90 or up average you got first choice, doesn't mean you'll actually get to go where you want, just first pick on whatever orders they have. But usually they have some good orders that go quick so the higher your grade, the more key location you can get. But only valedictorian gets kicked up a paygrade, not honor students. I found that out the hard way.

Finding out the hard way...That's the story of my life!!! hehehehehe. That's why I ask a billion questions.:p:p Thanks for the headsup though. That helped.

Sweeney,
They are promoting the Valedictorian now? When did this start? We weren't doing this in April?? Corps School did not promote out of the school house, I worked in Student Personnel.

Where is HMC Pace when you need him.. I will get clarification on this.

Later

HMC

I was told they were starting to do that again. I don't know if they actually promoted him but a lot of instructors were saying Corps school was starting again. I could be wrong but there was a lot of talk about it before I left.
