Yes but we aren't the only ones. Chaplains, RPS, saftey departement or wing saftey or squadron safety all wear white Flight Deck Jersey's and Float coats (not jackets).

Green is squadron final checkers (usually ATs and AE's) as well as ship company arresting Gears and Catapults.

Red: weapons dept (ship company) or squadron ordanance (crash and fire also)

Yellow for flt deck and hanger bay directors

Blue for tractors and saftey equipment operators

Brown for the line shack (an airwing equivalant to the deck dept only they do airplane crud work) Actually line shack life is cool, I got to be a plane captain while an HM!!! They do the cleaning, the inspects, the chalks and chains.

Purple Fuel division Ship company only. Got the color idea for them from the purple pipes that carry the fuel through out the ship. Just a little piece of Naval history and actually was an EAWS question for me!

I was the first HM in HSL-46 to get his wings, scored better than all but three guys in the entire squadron's history on my oral board. 2 wrong answers out of 196 questions. I shall never forget what "indexing the tail rotor means" or how to take and replace a main rotor blade.

Not a day goes by, I don't look at those wings and smile. CMC Campbell if you ever see this, thanks for sticking that foot in my a$$.

20 years is a long time, time to do it all! After 10 years of hospitals and marines Ill be going to a squadron that is based off a ship. You will have plenty of time if you stick it out, to do anything and everything you want as a corpsman.

You wont 'get stuck' at a shore command forever, we have a sea/shore rotation requirement. Also, now-a-days, shore command corpsmen are getting augmented to the marines and ships to support OIF. I was stationed at NH Corpus Christi for 31 months and only worked about 6 months at the hospital; the rest of the time was in Iraq flying with the Marines or training up and helping start the Navy's new Air Ambulance program in Kuwait.

Its wide open and you'll have every oppertunity to do it all if you stick with it. Best job ever.

Air ambulance? We were doing that in Kuwait back in 91. Unless this is something new and improved.

Yeah kid don't worry I did 20 yrs. I had 2 hospitals (bookended my career) 2 Navy helicopter squadrons, 1 Navy F/A 18 squadron, 2 Marine F/A 18 squadrons, and a unique shore duty assingned to Aircraft Intermediate maintenance Depot Cecil Filed FL. When not on board ship, and squadron was not on the road to Yuma, Tyndall, Hill AFB, or my favorite waste of time FALLON NV, I was TAD to the branch clinic at my home port. Clinic staff hated us in Aviation Medicine and we were none to fond of the regiment there either.

Our feelings were, "we work 16 hour days at sea, so back home we're not gonna pull eight. " That caused a lot of overseeing by the director and th e assistant director, but we wandered off like escaped cons ever chance we got.

It's a wonder I never got busted, thrown in the brig, made to wash toilets daily or been the reason for bringing back flogging.
