Im an FTS reservist with orders to Naval Station Newport, RI. I was just curious about a few things to do w/ fts.
First, do FTS go w/ marines. I want to go at some point but I know that straight out of corps school FTS don't go to fmss. Will it be an option at some point down the road, or will i most likely have to go anyway.
Second, I know a little about FTS. From what I understand I'm active duty, but get my orders from the reserve pot, is there any real difference or do FTS just fill a specific job inside the Navy?
Thanks in advance,

HA Sweeney,
Yes there are a lot of FTS greenside billets. At some point you might be able to go to FMTB(formally FMSS).
You should be treated just like an Active Duty Sailor, but you will be working with the Reserve side of the house. You will work Drill weekends and deal with the mobilization of the reservist. It's not a bad job, but I hope you like paperwork.
Hope this helps.

Will I actually be practicing anything medical related, or just pretty much all records and paperwork? I'm working in the reservist center, and have been told that I'm very lucky having these as my first orders. Also I'm from Boston so it's not that far away, which is a good and bad thing because I want to go west coast, but there are hardly any billets coming in right now for FTS, and this is what I got.

I tell you for sure what you will actually be doing while there. Records and Paperwork, is a definate, but as for doing anything Clinical type, it's hard to say. Give the Reserve Center a call and talk to your sponsor. They should be able to give you a good idea of what you'll be doing.

Thanks a lot. I have been talking to my sponsor but more about everything to do with checking in. I report on Saturday, so I'm sure I'll find out everything then. Thanks again
