free time in A school

And my never ending list of questions continues!

In A- school are you restricted to base? Can you leave for the weekend? What time is the curfew?

If you have free time during Corpsman 'A' school, then you should be an 'A' student and can afford time off the base.

I believe you do get the weekends off, except if you have the duty or watch.

I was just wondering because my Godfather who I dont get to see lives up there, and it would be nice to get to spend time with his family. I am sure that I will be able to do well in the school, college has taught me study habits and when I apply myself things generally come to me.

My son did take time off on the weekends, as he found a girlfriend who later became his wife. He did spend time off the base, more than I would have liked. But he made it with a 90 overall average.

You will definitely get time to meet with your family there. It's nice to have a quiet place to go such as your godfather's house, visit, study, B B Q.

There are 3 phases of liberty.

Phase one: You have to be back in barracks at 10 every night including the weekends, be in uniform at all times and can only leave the base on weekends.

Phase two: Back in by 10 on weekdays, 12 on weekends. Can wear civies after school unless on duty, and can leave the base after school.

Phase three: Back in by 10 on weekdays, can stay out all weekend and be back by 10 on sunday. Can wear civies and leave base.

You start off on phase one, move to phase two in two weeks, then 3 in another 3 weeks. But if you get in any trouble they immediately phase you down, and you have to wait another 2 or 3 weeks to get it back.


This was true 2 weeks ago, but things change VERY often, so it could be very different when you get there. But ya you will definitely have time to see your family.

Just one minor correction:

Phase three is given to you have you have successfully PASSED three tests...if you go Corps school schedule then you will indeed wont get phase three until week three...if however you decide to do the first three tests in the first week then the next thursday you will be Phase Three. This is what we did...classed up on a wednesday and the following thursday was phase 3.

Its not that hard on the first three tests...you have all the material you need for tests one and two in SDCA (which you can study if you so choose for 2 weeks while you are waiting to class up) and test 3 is BLS (Basic Life Saving) which is nothing more than a 20 question test immediately after a CPR lab.

You will have plenty of free time IF you so choose to study during the day and take your time on your course schedule. I plan on writing the day in the life of four various students in corps school based entirely on the three of us in my room and a fellow shipmate from boot camp. Four pretty similar guys going 4 entirely seperate ways here in school. :)

Phase 1 can wear civilian clothes on weekends only, but they still have to be in by 2200. Unless of course they've changed it since I left 2 months ago.
