This may be an awkward question.. but I see people talking about phases of liberty. During most of the phases you always have to wear your uniform. What about if you are working out?? Can you go in shorts and t-shirt or do you have to wear a uniform too? It just seems they are pretty strict on the uniform deal.
Lil Miss Kenya:
The navy issues and a physical training uniform to wear. It's shorts, 'T' shirt and tennis shoes.

Oh ok, thanks. Does anyone know while in bootcamp if we can take time and pay our bills online or if we just have to find another way of doing it?
Paying bills while in bootcamp! I don't see that happening. Any phone calls you get to make are usually to reward the recruits for something they all did good at. Those phone calls are very few and are short in duration. RDC's only allow a few minutes for those few calls.
Set up for automatic payment with your bank or have someone in your family pay them for you.

Hahahaha, I knew that was a shot in the dark question. But you never know. Thanks

Dont know if you already left for boot camp or not, but I just finished A school, here is the skinny.
1) Phase 1 Liberty
- Given when you first check into Coprs School out of bootcamp
- Last for the duration that you are in your indoctionation class, more than likely 2 or 3 weeks. I remember I was in indoctionation, otherwise known as "SDCA", for about that long.
- Uniform only during liberty (1530 - 2200), including working, dress, and utilities uniform. Also includes navy issue pt gear.
2) Phase 2 liberty
- Given after you get "classed up" and start your financial responsabilities class.
- Ends after your 3 week in actual Corps School
- Allows civilian clothes during liberty hours, and you can stay out until 2400 on friday and saturday nights.
3) Phase 3 liberty
- Begins after your 3rd week of actual Corps School in good standing
- Ends when you f-up
- Allows civilian clothes during liberty hours and allows you to stay checked out of your barracks from 1530 friday till 2200 sunday.
Hope this helps!

Some S-2 about this...starting Monday 13 Aug, liberty for students will be starting at 2000 and securing at 2200. Whammy.
Pegasus;
What about liberty starting on Friday? Does it still end on Sunday? Or is it, 2000 to 2200 7 days a week?
Welcome Aboard here.
Almost got it right, phase 1 you get civies on the weekend, back on 22 everynight, phase 2 you get civies during all liberty, back on 24 on friday and sat, sunday you get to stay out overnight on friday and saturday. And no the 20-22 liberty change is only mon-thur. It sucks, but we also get an hour and a half of free time from 1530 to 1745 as well to do what we need to do. Oh well. They seem to be really rushing this big change.

Why the big change? When I was there I was always amazed at the Command's desire to continuously attack liberty.
Maybe the need arose due to abuse of said "LIBERTY" - when you are in the military, liberty is a PRIVILEDGE not a right. When someone screws up EVERYONE pays.
my 2 cents on the issue
DeeDee
imho - stop whining and deal with it

I was just asking why they changed it and then I brought up my experience while there. Try to understand everyone who has a difference of opinion isn't always whining.

While you excelled at the sel paced style as well as people like Kaymanism.
Others did not.. The attrition rate was higher then before.. and you remember the MASTS? Ths keeps people out of trouble..
Unless you count the 80 underage drinkers that were caught this weekend at some big Hooya party..
Under the old rules I guess as the changes went down today!!
Ought to be interesting tonight online to see what went down..
Bring popcorn..
BTW DeeDee was not attacking ou or saying you were whining.
I remember when you used to tell people to just shut up and do what they were told. See you have only been out for a few months and you are really forgetting all the whining that goes on in here, the Scuttlbutt from the students and don't you remember the Barrack Lawyers???
;-)
Ahhh It is good to be graduated or retired is it not??

Hi Mark;
Please allow me to attempt to explain why this happens:
Dee Dee is correct, in that, "liberty" is a privilege and not a right!, however please review; NETPDTC INSTRUCTION 1620.1 Paragraph 7.
A privilege is a benefit, advantage, or favor provided for the convenience or A privilege is a enjoyment of an individual. Examples of privileges that may be withheld are special liberty, exchange of duty, special command
program participation, access to library, entrance to base clubs, and use of the base for private vehicle driving and parking. Withholding of privileges is non-punitive and may be employed to correct minor infractions of military regulations or performance deficiencies where punitive action would be inappropriate. Since withholding of privileges is temporary in nature, it should be for an appropriate period to effect the desired improvement in the member's performance. An individual may be deprived of his/her normal liberty as punishment only as directed in reference (a). However, loss of normal liberty due to the operational work requirements that extend past liberty call is not considered to be punishment and is lawful.

This is basically to keep the masses out of 'real' trouble such as a captains mast, reduction in rank, loss of pay, extra duty etc...
When I was in, I looked at this as the Captain giving me a break.
The reason this probably happened during your stay at NHCS is probably because other students were exhibiting unsatisfactory results. Poor test scores, poor inspection results, (room and uniform), general attitude etc.
Additionally, when one person messes up, everyone is generally punished. Perhaps they are trying to train you to react as a "team" and not an individual.

They had just ramped up the new liberty when I left. I never really did anything bad enough to get yelled at and certainly not go to Mast. Personally, I always liked Thursdays in school -- those were Court TV day. ;)
On another note, I noticed while there that people were getting wild. I don't know if that is from the mob mentality or people still considered themselves above the law when they got out of boot.
I hear in other 'A' schools it wasn't so bad but that's all NHCS scuttlebutt. All in all, I'm pretty damn happy I'm gone. I'd go nuts. I hated being able to drink legally but not being able to have a beer until Phase 2. Ugh..
Maybe this will work, maybe not. I hope it does. Better Corpsmen is what we need.

Yeah of the 80 people who were busted at the party in Vernon Hills this weekend 12 of them were Corps school students VERY underage...we can almost be rest assured that there will be 12 less students worrying about new liberty policies comes Thursday morning...
