ALL HOST FORMS MUST BE RECEIVED BY November 6, 2009 at 3 p.m. Applicants will be notified on the week of November 16, 2009 if they have been accepted by the program. You may call the Public Affairs Office at (847) 688-2430, Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with any additional questions. Click here to download the required form. FAX the completed form to (847) 688-4945. Very Important: Please ensure that the driver brings a copy (both pages) of the request form along with a valid driver’s license in order to pick up Sailor(s). Drivers not in possession of the request form and driver’s license may forfeit privilege of adopting Sailor(s). Host Restrictions: 1. Requests for Sailors of a particular racial, religious background or sex cannot be honored. However, it may be helpful to note if your family will be serving a particular ethnic food or a particular diet, (i.e. vegetarian) and we will try to match those with Sailor’s preference. 2. Requests for Sailors will limited to four per family. Families must live no farther than 50 miles from Naval Station. 3. Arrive at Naval Station Great Lakes Visitor’s Center no earlier than 7:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Sailors must be picked up no later than 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Visitor’s Center is located outside Gate 1 at 620 Farragut Ave, Great Lakes, IL 60088. 4. Sailors are required to be back in their quarters at the base no later than 8 p.m. Because they will have to walk from drop-off gates, please have Sailors at the gate no later than 7:30 p.m. 5. In case of an emergency or late return call the Command Duty Officer at (847) 688-3300. 6. Underage drinking is strictly prohibited. It is the host’s responsibility to confirm that the Sailor is of drinking age. According to the City of North Chicago Engineering Department (off-site link), road work will be abundant throughout North Chicago this year, making travel to and from the base a bit slower at times.
BADGE and PASS HOURS OF OPERATION - Monday-Friday 0600-1600 (10 hours per day), Sat/Sun 0800-1100 (3 hours per day) Individuals who require assistance outside the prescribed hours of operation will be able to receive a one-day pass at the Main Gate if they have a valid requirement to enter the installation, current proof of registration, insurance and a valid driver's license. The mission here at Naval Station Great Lakes is clear: Deliver highly skilled, technically proficient, disciplined and motivated Sailors to the fleet. Great Lakes has been transforming civilians into well trained, highly motivated Sailors Since its founding in 1911. With fifteen service schools, support and tenant commands, and the Navy's only Recruit Training Command or "boot camp" there are more than 25,000 military and civilian personnel living, working, and training here at Great Lakes ensuring that we maintain the position as the Navy’s largest training facility. Naval Station Great Lakes is a dynamic environment where training occurs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also continues to be a preferred duty station, which attracts the finest Sailors in the Navy to serve as Recruit Division Commanders, instructors, and many other support positions throughout the base. Too much history can, unfortunately, create the misconception that Great Lakes’ best days are in the past. Nothing could be further from the truth. The current Recruit Training Command, for instance, is under-going a dramatic recapitalization program that has created a premiere training environment that is unmatched. Millions of dollars have been spent on modern barracks, dining facilities, classrooms and office buildings. Naval Station Great Lakes truly is a place of challenge and excitement. |
