Actually the wife was more interested in know these small details. I think the general Idea she was gunning for was how long I'd be deployed if I was. She assumed that Reserves get shorter deployment. However I don't think that is true though

You would be correct. The length of a deployment will depend on what platform you are assigned to, the mission they are assigned to etc. There is no set time length for deployments as they all vary. For instance a shipboard deployment maybe for a month (i.e. for an exercise) whereas an IA deployment may last 375 days or more. It all depends...

Not to scare your wife but the reserves that deployed with us back in 2002 were actually away from home for 2 full years.. they activated in pa which was fine then we augmented to a unit in north carolina did workups.. then deployed on 24th meu for 9 months.. then came back to nc did about 4 months of work downs.. then finally back to pa and about 6 weeks later they were off active duty.. this is rare but keep in mind that anything can happen.. nothing is set in stone..

We had Reserves who augmented our regular crew on one of the ships I had delpoyed with. The cruise lasted four and a half months.

I figured as much. As a true man I'm not going to tell her any of this (she'd lose her mind). No point in worrying her now over what might be. |

As advised earlier in this thread, I searched the forum for other references to FTS, however (more then likely my fault) I couldn't find any other then this one. I question was what are the billets available to FTS's

Billets available for FTS personnel are typically Reserve oriented. Lots of Reserve Centers (both blue and green), but there are some operational type billets available such as some ships, squadrons, SeaBee commands etc. The FTS community is a much much smaller subset of the Active Duty community.
You can also try searching for threads about the TAR program as that's what it used to be known as before it changed to FTS.

I'm nervous and excited. My wife and I or losing our minds, however she's be more "doting" then usual which is nice.
