SDP is only good if you can deposit $10,000 (max). If you can't, in my eyes, it is not worth it. For the vast majority, $10,000 isn't something readily available. So, no, I did not contribute. |

SDP Deposit "What is the maximum that I may deposit on my SDP?" DFAS Response: There is no limit on the amount that may be contributed; however no interest is paid on amounts exceeding $10,000.00. If you are depositing by allotment it will not stop automatically when the balance reaches $10,000.00. You must monitor the balance and request the allotment be stopped. The Savings Deposit Program is a benefit for deployed members. Members can deposit up to $10,000 into an account earning interest at a rate of 10% annually. Surprisingly, one of the strongest forces in the world, is compound interest! The earlier you begin saving, the better off you or your family will be, as a result of it. It's not impossible to become a millionaire.
I don't think the SDP program requires you to make an initial deposit of $10,000.00, any increments are accepted. Last edited by 8404; 09-27-2009 at 12:05. |

Well if its not that big of a deal, I'll PM my account info and you can just slip $1k into my checking account.....
I figure you accumulated about 30 days paid leave during your 'vacation' to the sand box. Now I can dream up a few pretty good vacation senarios with 30 days paid leave, free Space-A flights, mil lodging, MWR discounts, and an extra $1,000 of free crazy money to spend as I please..... I think I could fund a few meals and a few drinks in some place fun with a spare $1k http://www.halekoa.com/ https://cnic.navy.mil/barkingsands/index.htm http://www.kmc-volcano.com/ http://www.edelweisslodgeandresort.com/home.html http://old.armymwr.com/portal/travel/recreationcenters/ |

Just to clear up any potential confusion for all the other readers who stop by this thread. Deciding to participate in SDP is a personal choice and some may elect not to do it for a variety of reasons. I think SDP is a very wise investment for the vast majority of individuals.
Quote:
Most people will see a significant raise in income when they deploy to a combat zone and, at the same time, their personal expenses will be dramatically decreased if not entirely eliminated. There is a good deal of extra money that they normally do not have. It is a great chance to take advantage of an incredible opportunity to get your finances in order and build a nest for tomorrow. SDP is one of the programs that will help you take full advantage of the opportunity Quote:
The money you deposit earns interest and then the interest you were paid earns interest. So not only do they pay you to save money, but they pay you for getting paid too... The 10% interest paid by SDP is far better than anything the banks are paying. And like most bank accounts, your SDP deposits are 100% safe and you do not risk loosing any money. No other short-term investment has the same high interest and benefits as SDP. |
