It is not easy for me to get excited about a Internet browser, but Apple released Safari 4 for Windows and for the Mac yesterday (Beta).

I am had a “GEEK-GASM” after in installed this piece of software. The way they let you browse and look at web pages, new and so easy to use, and best of all.. FAST.

Apple Safari 4-Beta Top Sites Function

Thanks to Top Sites, you can enjoy a stunning, at-a-glance preview of your favorite websites without lifting a finger. Safari 4 Beta tracks the sites you browse and ranks your favorites, presenting up to 24 thumbnails on a single page. You can even customize the display by pinning a favorite site to a specific location in the grid. That locks it into position, so you know just where to find it every time you open Top Sites.

Wonder which sites have changed since your last visit? Sites with a star in the upper-right corner have new content. A single click opens the page and updates its thumbnail. Whenever you want to return to your ever-evolving Top Sites page, just click the new Top Sites button in the bookmarks bar.

Cover Flow

New to Safari, Cover Flow offers a highly visual way of reviewing your site history and bookmarked sites, presenting full-page previews of the websites that look exactly as they did when you last visited them.

One look is all you need to recognize the site you want to visit. Simply flip through website previews in Cover Flow the same way you flip through album art in iTunes. Directional arrows let you browse forward and back. Or you can quickly flip through multiple sites using the slider. And when you find the site you want, simply click to open it.

Full History Search

With Full History Search and Cover Flow, what you see is where you went. Safari introduces a dramatic new way to revisit sites, letting you flip through full-page previews of the sites you visited in the past. You may not have total recall, but Safari does, automatically storing all the text and a thumbnail of every page in your history. That makes it easy for Safari to get results even if you remember little about the site you’re searching for.

Just type a word or phrase in the History Search field in Top Sites, and Safari quickly presents you with a list of possibilities. In fact, you can search for anything that was on a page you visited, even photo captions. To jog your memory, Safari presents the sites it finds in Cover Flow, giving you the opportunity to spot the right site on sight.

Can Someone, “ANYONE” build a phone that works?? Maybe do some QA to make sure a product you are about to release to the wild, or have released the wild “WORKS?”…

Apple continues to have problems with the I-PHONE version 2.0 (3G).  Even though you are in area that has a sufficent 3G signal, the I-Phone keeps dropping the fast signal and drops you back to the tortise reception of the Edge Network.

A article here at the CNET Blogs area claims that the Blackberry Bold might be having the same issues quote:

There are lots of people reporting on the spotty iPhone 3G reception issues and according to Barron’s it looks like the BlackBerry Bold may be experiencing those same 3G reception issues. The Bold is available only in a couple countries at the moment and isn’t yet available here in the U.S. so there is the possibility that the Bold’s software will be updated prior to the release.

Well the only thing I do know, The Blackberry has not been released yet due to some bugs they have been working on.  I would rather a company fix said bugs prior to release, then have me be the beta tester for them to fix the problems.  Right now Apple has millions of Beta Testers for their I-Phone.

So the wait goes on..

So how many of you proud iPhone owners know that Apple has built a backdoor into your phone so they can control what your phone does.

Apple decides what you are permitted to download and Apple decides what applications will run. Apple can choose to delete things off your phone without your knowledge or consent and Apple can simply shut your iPhone down so it no longer functions. And I am sure they told you that when you bought it.

But, hey, its all in the name of security and designed to keep you safe from the boogie man. That is why it was a secret function that customers were not informed of and initially pushed off as a crazy paranoid conspiracy theory when it was first discovered. Now that the cat is out of the bag, Steve Jobs has just confirmed the kill switch is real but has a positive spin selling it as a condom for your iPhone. Its there to keep you safe, trust me….

Jobs is quoted saying: “Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull.”

If only Microsoft would build a lever to disable computers…
If only GM would build a lever to disable cars…
If only Nintendo would build a lever to disable Wii…
If only DirectTV would build a lever to disable tv’s…

The world would be such a more responsible and safer place if a corporation (disgruntled employee or resourceful hacker) could shut you down or redirect your activities anytime they wanted to…

This and they there is talk in the tech areas that the 3G Chip in the I-Phone are having major errors and they there is talk that Apple is silently exchanging the I-Phones that are brought in with problems.

We here at Corpsman.com are always creating content for you the users, and this weekend is no different.

So you all have been following my ongoing saga the “Blackberry Bold Vs. Apple I-Phone 2.0″.  It looks like we have a winner there. (Blackberry, but the bell has not rung yet.)
Now I am off doing research on a new laptop Computer for later this year.  I am thinking about getting a Apple Macbook Pro (mac.com)  and moving over to the “Grey Poupon” crowd, or maybe going to the Mod side and getting a “ALIENWARE” Lattop (alienware.com).

Both are comparable in price for the equal types of chipsets.  The one thing Alienware has though in its corner though is that you can also get the fastest stuff out there, but pay a price being the first with the fastest chip.
MAC Book Pro runs “OSX” which can be partitioned to run both “OSX” as well as “Microsoft Vista” Dual Boot.

The Alienware computer will only be able to run “Microsoft Vista”

Breakdown on prices..

MAC Book Pro:

2.5GHz Intel Core 2 duo,
2 gigs or Ram,

all for $2799.00

Alienware Comparable chipset:

So the Apple costs a bit less, which is great right out of the store.  What Apple nails you on though is it is damn near impossible to do any upgrades on the system.

Steve Jobs, and rightly so, believes Apple should be the only ones working on their machines so if there is a problem, Apple can handle it.  The buck Stops there.  The problem with this is Apple is “HIGH PRICED” on anything they do.

To be honest, I think I am leaning Apple.

Apple I-Phone:

Mainly Pricing plans have become available and it has pretty much priced itself out of its consideration.  Take a look, I don’t know what AT&T and Apple are thinking.

AT&T today announced I-Phone 3G pricing for new and existing AT&T customers, several attractive voice and data plans, and tips on how to be “iReady” when iPhone 3G goes on sale at AT&T retail stores at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, July 11.

Pricing and Eligibility

AT&T is making it easy for customers to prepare for their iPhone 3G purchase by posting “Get iReady” tips and frequently asked questions at www.att.com/iphone. The site also will include a link for customers to check their upgrade eligibility and other wireless account information.

Yeah I need tips for it like I need a hole in my head.  Honestly what is so much different to the
I-PHONE Ver- “1”.   Is AT&T Trying to be Apple in mind control? Please stop with this nonsense.

Here is some more.. the juicy stuff..

iPhone 3G will be available for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model. These prices require two-year contracts and are available to the following customers:

• iPhone customers who purchased before July 11
• Customers activating a new line with AT&T
• Current AT&T customers who are eligible, at the time of purchase, for an upgrade discount

Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement. In the future, AT&T will offer a no-contract-required option for $599 (8GB) or $699 (16GB).

Did someone forget to tell AT&T and Apple that the economy is in the dumper right now? Hell folks are hawking manhole covers to get money.. (Don’t believe me Read this!)

But “WAIT THERE’S MORE!” (And no you won’t get a free I-phone if you buy it in the next 20 mins..)

Voice, Data and Text Messaging Plans

iPhone 3G customers can choose from four individual AT&T Nation plans, which bundle voice and unlimited data (e-mail and Web browsing).

• AT&T Nation Unlimited: Includes unlimited Anytime Minutes for $129.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 1350: Includes 1350 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $109.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 900: Includes 900 Anytime Minutes and unlimited Night & Weekend Minutes for $89.99 a month.
• AT&T Nation 450: Includes 450 Anytime Minutes and 5,000 Night & Weekend Minutes for $69.99 a month.

All AT&T Nation and AT&T FamilyTalk plans for iPhone 3G include nationwide long distance and roaming, Visual Voicemail, Rollover, unlimited Mobile to Mobile calling, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting, Three-Way Calling and Caller ID.

AT&T will offer FamilyTalk plans, with bundled voice and unlimited data, starting as low as $129.99 a month for two iPhone 3G lines. Up to three additional iPhone lines can be added for $39.99 each.

Unlimited text messaging can be added for an additional $20 ($30 for FamilyTalk plans of up to five lines); $15 (1,500 messages), or $5 (200 messages).

This truly stinks, and you see most will buy the phone thinking it is cheaper up front (It is) when buying it if you are a “NEW” customer.  If you “AREN’T” a new customer and have the old I-Phone be ready to pony up some cash.  To make thing worse.. The Contract is about $45.00 more over the term of 3 years.  (This is including COST OF PHONE + SERVICE CONTRACT=45.00 more).

I think this is a “BAD” move on Apples part. They have locked themselves into a program with AT&T when Apple has prided themselves on the Customer Service Platform.  They are the Mercedes of the Computer industry.. (Just ask them..)  But now they are up there with the “Grey Poupon” Crowd… “LET THEM EAT CAKE”..

Not a good idea in a recession.

And last but not least. The one thing folks wanted with the I-Phone is the vaunted “3G” service.. Well my friends.. Take at look at AT&T’s “3G” service area.. We have it where I am at.. but most in the US don’t.. (The Blue areas are the 3G Service areas..)

Look, I am not a I-Phone basher. I wanted one in the worst way.. But I am not going to get gouged for this.. it’s not worth it to me.

It could be worse though.. I could be a “ROGER’s” Customer in Canada….

We still don’t have a date of release yet for the Blackberry Bold, but some snippets have come out.

The one thing that is not on Blackberry’s side though is the same as above. It is going to be handled by AT&T at first here in the States, but then will be released to other providers. (I.e Verizon etc)  AT&T means bad “3G” Coverage, but the one thing it does have in it’s favor, the Blackberry Network is much faster then AT&T’s.
