HM2 Andrew J. King Killed in Training Accident, 9 Feb 2009

HM2 Andrew J. King was killed in a training accident on the 9th of Feb 2009 at a firing range at Camp Lejeune, NC. Our thoughts and prayers go out to HM2’s family, shipmates, Marines, and friends.

HM2  King had made 4 combat tours already in his young career.

It shows that our job is serious business, that we fight as we train and we train as we fight.  No matter what we do all the precautions we take, sometimes accidents happen.

There is a investigation as to what happened with this incident, I don’t want to speculate as we were not there. It is not my place to make judgments on events that I don’t have all the facts on.

Some shipmates have emailed me asking why I had not written about this, It was not that I was turning my back on the HM2, I just did not and would not put out bad gouge, it would not be fair to him, his shipmates, Marines nor his family.

You have to understand, I am not in Lejeune, I don’t have correspondents on the ground for Corpsman.com.  I have to be sure as to what I write, when I write it.

It was a sad day here though when the news hit.  Any loss of any “DOC” from any service is felt by all.

I am still trying to find out if he was FMF, if anyone knows please Comment below and I will correct the article.

We at Corpsman.com grieve for your loss.

I new HM2 Andrew King when I was stationed with him on the Kennedy in 1998. I was his LPO, needless to say I was heart broken when HMC Manahan told me about this tragedy. I watched him grow from a young HR, who was like many of us to a shining Second Class Petty Officer. The Hospital Corps lost a good man. Being a Doc is not easy, danger lurks at every corner. I remember when he got his Surface Warfare Pin. That was a proud day for all of us. Semper Fi Doc King. Rest in Peace Brother.

My God: just found out about Andy King. What a tragedy! Served with him on the Big John, and I remember being so impressed with what an amazing corpsman, sailor, and man that he was back in 2000. 9 more years of service had to have made him even better. What a terrible loss. I count myself blessed to have served with such a remarkable young man for the time that I was graced with. RIP, Doc King.
