It Really Does Make a Difference

Gold Star Family

Gold Star Family

This was Posted  by Doc DiGaetano on Facebook from the “Support Our Marines Inc” group.

If it doesn’t put a lump in your throat, nothing will.

Read below.

So, I”m pumping gas today and noticed the car in front of me had a Goldstar sticker on the rear window. The sad truth of the matter is, I’ve seen several of them over the years and, while I knew what it meant, I’ve never had the nerve to walk up to a complete stranger and say something especially about such a personal subject.

I cannot even imagine what it’s like to be a Goldstar mother ON Mother’s day and I almost started sobbing right then and there. Maybe it was the signifigance of the day, maybe it was the comfort of knowing that she had seen the Marine Corps Flag and American Flags flying on my car and there would be some recognition.

I finally worked up the courage to walk over to her and simply said “I’m so sorry for your loss. It is not unappreciated”

She started sobbing right there and gave me a hug unlike any I’ve ever had and just sobbed, “Do you realize that you are the only stranger who has ever recognized the signifigance of my sticker and thanked me for my sacrifice” .

I fessed up and told her that, while I had seen several , this was the first time I had quite worked up the nerve to walk up to a complete stranger and say something to which she replied, simply

“Having a complete stranger recognize and thank me for my loss, especially today, really has made a difference”

So, if you see this symbol on a car, or a shirt …set aside YOUR fear or YOUR discomfort and say something, you really might make a difference in someone’s day

PS: Blue Star means their child is deployed but alive and well
PPS: Silver is a wounded Service Member

If you happen to see a Gold Star or Blue Star family out today or any day, Please stop and tell them how much their children or family members mean to you and our country. Their sacrifice means more to the family but you as well.

Also remember if it is a “Gold Star” that their family member is a hero.

“Wes” I haven’t forgot, please tell The Mrs, we here at Corpsman.com are thinking about you and your family. I will hoist one to Your Hero tonight as well.
